It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

It is beginning to look and feel a lot like Christmas here in Texas! Glad to feel some cooler temperatures, makes it seem more like December than May. I combined some before and after pictures with some decorating for the holidays. Thanks for stopping by and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
Living Room fireplace before
Living Room fireplace after, new firebox, mantel, the ceiling is vaulted in this room now. I am so proud of how it turned out.
This is the kitchen before.
The Kitchen after with new cabinets, vaulted wood ceiling, my style tribute to the design in the blog For the Love of House kitchen. Also my handy work at sewing the curtain in the large original window over the sink.
The scary laundry room before with all the mechanicals and washer dryer hook up. The package drop is to the right of the door. We kept it, so glad we did.
To the prettiest transformation of all. The package drop from the original design, fits right in and I love the way it looks. New everything cabinets, floor and backsplash.
Looking in the other direction in the kitchen, toward the back yard. The pictures are not in order.
Here is the kitchen table set for the season. Windows are original but everything else is new.
This is my parents vintage nativity scene, a true reminder of the season. For, behold, I bring you tidings of great joy, which shall be to all my people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. Merriest Christmas Blessings to each and every one of you.

Snapshots of Home

Happy Labor Day! Here are a couple of more photos of our home. Slowly getting things in order, just found silk for the curtains in the Living room and Dining room. Can't wait to see them finished and how they will complete the space.
Here is the dining room looking toward the kitchen. I spy a photo bomber...Deacon our cavalier, just protecting his territory.
Looking at the Living room from the opposite direction. You can see the dining room and the fireplace revamp. The mantel is an antique that our trim guys modified to make it fit the fireplace. This firebox had to be totally remade and looks spectacular. The tv will be hidden behind a two way mirror, still looking for a frame to match the decor.
This is a peek into the new formal powder bath, this space was created out of a closet and part of the middle bedroom. They wallpaper in here is beautiful, but the cabinet and marble turned out just like I hoped. Thanks for stopping by.

Glimpses of Home

Well, we have been in Hathaway almost two months, (minus two weeks of being out of town)and it is starting to feel like home. Cue the Walton's music... We are still finishing up some most needed touch ups but wanted to show you a couple of things I am loving most about the house. Well, for right now anyway.
Dining room chandelier after rewiring and many coats of paint on the ceiling. I need more coffee to get the picture straight.
The foyer with the mirror and reflection of the beautiful grass laid by my sweet husband and son. The walls are high gloss paint but I think it could be shinier!
The living room looking from the dining room towards the gallery hallway. Looking forward to sharing the rest of the house with you all, as soon as I can get it all dolled up to snap photos. You know we do not live in a museum, and I LOVE the quote by the late Erma Bombeck, "If you have come to see me, come on in. If you have come to see the house, come back in an hour." Thanks for stopping by!

More than Halfway to Home

Well, we have moved in.... but we are still finishing up some details. We love the house. It is great, it turned out wonderfully and I am loving a one story after living in a three story. Although I walk more back and forth than I did going up and down the stairs. Here are a couple of photos of the progress we have made.
Boxes outside the family room, we decided to recycle and reuse boxes so a lot more trips to and fro from one house to the other. These are the only ones unpacked, there are plenty more to go.
Here is a corner of the family room, dog kennels, my dining room chandelier waiting for rewiring, and new trim on the baseboard ready for paint. Oh, yes and Easter baskets,Lionel trains not sure where they are headed but are resting nicely on the game table and have been there for longer than I would like.
Just a sample of our paint..... seriously touch up are abound.
Here is our new kitchen table. Can you see it, under all the stuff that needs a new home. We have downsized but I think all my stuff has multiplied overnight. Waiting to show you the finished kitchen and my nod to Joan at for the love of a house blog. She is an extremely talented lady and I envy her sense of design and style. Thanks for stopping by and hope to show you more soon!

Passed with flying colors.....GREEN

Today we are smiling, we passed our electrical and plumbing inspections. That means some of boxes we have been climbing over for weeks are being loaded up and are headed to their new space! YIPEE!!!!
Everyone has been working so diligently and we really appreciate it. I am looking forward to all the hard work it is going to take and getting the house in order so we can finally call it HOME. Thanks for stopping by.

Waiting is not my cup of tea

Sorry for the lack of posts but we have had so many things not go our way lately I just could not muster the words to write a post. We have decided to move ahead and booked the moving truck for Thursday the 5th of July. It has been a long year of renovations and we can not wait for them to be finished. Hathaway feels like home and we hate to leave when we head back after a day of working on a project or stopping by to check on what has been completed that day. Here are some snap shots of things I thought you might want to see.
The family room floors after scraping but before stain. The new windows and wainscoating and glorious sunshine
The floors after the stain and poly to make them shine.
One of most favorite things.... Gas Lamps they are beautiful, but really pretty in the evening. Will post a photo once I dig the Nikon out of a packed box.
And our last project to date... the weathervane. The cupola has been up for a while and we (me and my sweet hubby) decided today to complete the project and add the weathervane. Did I happen to mention we live in TEXAS and it has been over 100 degrees everyday this week. Make no mistake it was an oven up there. I did comment I am glad I did not have this garage growing up or I would have laid out on top of it to tan (really I mean burn myself to a crisp with baby oil and iodine) all the time. It looks fantastic but it was totally an I LOVE LUCY episode to get it finished and installed. That friends, is another story for another day perhaps after we move in. Thanks for stopping by for a visit.

Snapshot of cabinets and hint of things to come

Well here we are in May and we are moving along (not as quickly as I would have hoped) but things are coming together. Here are some photos to show you our progress.
The kitchen cabinets are primed in this photo, waiting for their paint and countertops.
The soapstone countertops on two sections of the kitchen
The farmhouse sink, I have dreamed about.
Laundry room countertop and cabinets
The polished nickel cup pulls for the drawers and matchbook latches for the upper cabinets in the kitchen. We are looking forward to spending a lot of time in this space and sharing it with all those people we love.

Knock, Knock ?

It has been way too long since I have posted a blog. We are getting closer daily and can't wait to move in. The cabinets are going in and the trim is in most of the house. We are hopefully getting into the last 4-6 weeks of renovations.

Here are the recently installed kitchen cabinets. Please look at the beautiful ceiling, it was quite an event to get it installed.

This is the island that will house the dishwasher and icemaker.

These are the built ins in the master study

Master bath cabinets, can't wait to see them painted out and the counter top installed.

Our daughters bathroom cabinet and a peak at her tiled floor.

Enjoying our journey!

You Light up my Life

We are starting to see all our choices coming to reality. We are moving along nicely and hope to be in by the last of April. The walls are in and sanded down to a flat, soft finish, the floors are waiting to be roughed up and stained. Almost all the tile is complete, there are plenty of paint samples up on the walls. The trim is going in and and up it almost every room. But I wanted to follow up with a project started ages ago or it seems that way to me.

We started with this box hanging outside over the entrance to the Utility room. I wanted to save as we have demo'd so much that I was wondering if we would have any charm left. So my sweet husband (who is such a Renaissance man) removed it from over the door and handed it to me.
I jumped on the opportunity to strip it and see what lay beneath. See this post: Now you see it, now you don't As you can see from that post it was not pretty at all even after three coats of stripper and wire brush. So up it went on the shelf in the garage until my sweet husband got a new toy.... A DREMEL, it was like Christmas morning only better, probably because I did not have to go to bed at 2:00 am after helping Santa put out the toys! He just went to store and purchased it himself! And it truly has a million and one uses.

Here is where we started: coated with at least ten layers of paint.

After three to four applications of stripper and wire brushings. Still rough, but thrilled to see it was once the house numbers and a light for the Utility entrance.

After I removed the glass carefully, this is what was inside rusted metal and old wiring. (which we are all more than familiar with)

Here is the glass by itself with house numbers on it and lots of caulk and paint all around the edges.

Here is the miracle of the Dremel... (man I love that thing and my sweet husband)!!! You can see some of the rust holes but it almost looks brand new and ready for ( dare I say it...) a new coat of paint.

Here is the top and mounting bracket after the Dremel treatment and before paint.

This is glass cleaned and ready for new house numbers. The numbers behind the glass are copies of the original ones that will be painted on the glass before it is installed in the light.

This photo shows the new coat of paint on the lantern to match the new hardware that will be installed on the new Utility door.

Once again the bracket and mounting hardware with a new coat of matching paint.

And last but not least the old light socket and new socket with wonderful up to date wiring.
Enjoying the process and can not wait to show you all the updates.
Happy Friday.
